Improve your previous knowledge of the French language; build up your confidence by practising your speaking skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Revise your vocabulary and useful expressions when speaking about home and family, and where you live, and when shopping for different items. Enjoy building up your vocabulary and developing your understanding of French grammar with the use of the past imperfect tense and future tense.

Course aim

To develop French language skills for use in conversation in a variety of everyday situations.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Talk about what home and extended family.
  • Talk about where I live and the different places in my area.
  • Understand and use the past imperfect tense to speak about past situations/what I used to do.
  • Understand and use the future tense to speak about future events.
  • Shop for different items using appropriate phrases and pleasantries.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A notebook and pen/pencil to take notes. Some information about useful websites will be provided in class.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
