Independent Creative Printmaking

This course gives opportunities for students with some printmaking skills to work more independently to further develop their skills and work on individual projects. There will be opportunities to develop their skills in monoprinting, collagraph, drypoint, etching on metal and linoprinting. Students will have completed a printmaking course at the Artworks or have had some experience of printmaking before enroling. As well as developing their printmaking skills, students will explore the connection between art and print to develop their own creative outcomes.

Course aim

To provide opportunities for the development of skills and techniques of traditional printmaking, leading to the creation of a series of hand printed artworks as part of an personal printing project.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a range of basic printmaking techniques.
  • Use printmaking materials and equipment under supervision.
  • Complete a practical, personal project based on printmaking.
  • Understand the variety of styles and different techniques that apply to printmaking. and use them appropriately in their own printing project
  • Display confidence whilst developing their own printmaking skills.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
