This entry level men's health course is aimed at learners with attached learning disabilities who wish to understand and apply the knowledge to understand / maintain their own physical health and well-being. The course informs the learners of the differing aspects of independent life skills, personal care, healthy lifestyle, men's grooming and mental health well-being.

Course aim

Provide entry level introduction to the processes of men's health care and well-being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for students with LD from HFT

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Be able to further understand the different functions of the human body.
  • Be aware of the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.
  • Be aware of the differing aspects of men's grooming.
  • Be aware of different independent living skills.
  • Be aware of the importance of team building and mental health well-being.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods to enage learners to the best of their abilities.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • Subject reading and preparation is not essential prior to attending the course, however it would be desirable to have a basic understanding of the course learning outcomes. Course handouts and materials will be provided by the course tutor.

  • Progression could lead to entry level health and well-being courses.
