We are getting into gear for the busiest time in the gardening year. we will start sowing seed and planting, weeding and preparing beds. We will learn about wildlife in the garden - friends or foes and how to encourage friendly/beneficial animals and insects

Course aim

To learn and practice simple gardening skills, growing vegetables and maintaining the Learning Zone garden throughout the different seasons - part 2 - winter and early spring

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • - practice and improve gardening skills such as seed sowing potting up, planting out, weeding, bed preparation and watering
  • - Learn about seasonal cycles in the garden - jobs to do in winter and early spring
  • - Learn to identify 3 different types of wildlife in the garden and know whether they are friends or pests
  • - work with the group to maintain the Learning Zone vegetable garden

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
