This session will explore the development of Leeds in the 16th and 17th centuries and will help place the town in its historic context. Subjects include: • Th role of religion • The Nouveau Riche in Tudor and Stuart Society • The English Civil War
Course aim
To explore the physical, archaeological and written evidence for the development of Leeds in the 16th and 17th centuries To give students sufficient confidence to begin to interpret this material for themselves
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify some surviving features of the Tudor and Stuart landscape
- Trace the development of Leeds and the surrounding district
- Identify those elements which contribute to the character of the town
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
