Castaway Act: Action for Camera

Ref: C3674357

On this course we will be observing and demonstrating acting skills and techniques on both the stage and screen with a view to transferring our existing skills onto camera. At the end of the course we will have a collection of video clips to observe our progression through the course.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to transferring acting skills from the stage to the screen with the aim of creating a short film.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to transfer acting skills onto the screen by filming our technique practice throughout the course and seeing how we have developed at the end of the course.
  • Give thoughtful direction for screen acting half way through the course, by demonstrating newly acquired directorial skills and filming the results.
  • Observe both stage and screen performances and give verbal evidence of understanding the difference between the two.
  • Demonstrate screen acting skills through a filmed performance of an improvised piece at the end of the course.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
