Delve into the wonderfully aromatic world of Aromatherapy. Awaken your senses with the aromas that nature shares with us from her treasure chest of divine fragrances. Learn how to make lotions and potions with essential oils that you can use to improve the health and wellbeing of yourself and your family and friends. Over the course of 6 weeks you will learn how to make creams, scrubs, air fresheners, and much more besides, as well as the different ways these can be used to improve heath and wellbeing.

Course aim

To provide a basic understanding of the principles of Aromatherapy and illustrate how to employ it in improving the health and wellbeing of yourself and your family. To understand How, Why, Where and When Aromatherapy can be used.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise which is the best product to make or oil to use for which particular ailment/condition
  • Know whether or not it is a safe blend to use for people with particular health conditions
  • Know exactly how much of each oil to use in the blend. Know how to vary the dosage across all age groups
  • Be able to perform hand/foot scrubs and some basic massage techniques
  • Have knowledge about the history of Aromatherapy

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
