To give students a working knowledge of the importance played by plant hunters in the history of garden design. We shall study a selection of personalities and their contribution to garden history in Britain

Course aim

Plant Hunters have had an important place in garden history since the 16thc. We shall look at some important personalities and their impact through the ages.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain the reasons for plant hunting
  • Explain the importance of new plant species in garden history
  • Identify the major plant explorers through history
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the protocol and regulations concerning the export of plant species from the wild

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
