Yoga improves your physical strength and flexibility, movements are coordinated with the breath helping to calm the mind. Yoga will help you to relieve stress and tension, ease stiffness and to feel both relaxed and rejuvenated. All classes include breathing practices, gentle stretches, joint mobilisation exercises, a balanced range of postures and a deep relaxation. This course will focus on Seasonal practice with a focus on warming the joints to relieve stiffness, building the length of stretch sequences/ dynamic asana sequences and exploring variations of The Warrior poses. Students will focus on stillness in movement through concentration on the breath, and stillness after movement .

Course aim

Seasonal Yoga - this course will focus on warming practices, increasing rounds of Dynamic sequences and exploring variations of the Warrior poses. Our theme will be 'From movement to Stillness' .

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice a wide range of practices that warm the joints, and learn to develop subtle awareness of the effects of these practices.
  • Learn and extend the length of a range of dynamic sequences, increasing rounds of practice throughout the course.
  • Learn to still the mind as you move through concentration on the breath, learn to use Uyjayi breathing in dynamic practice.
  • Appreciate the outcome of dynamic practice through periods of rest, understanding that from movement we come to stillness.
  • Practice variations of the Warrior poses, using different arm movements and positions, including the Humble Warrior Pose.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will receive constant support and feedback. Any practice can be modified to suit your individual needs. You will be encouraged to practice at the right pace and level for you in a supportive and non competitive environment.

What else do I need to know?

  • You must bring your own Yoga Mat. Please ensure you have adequate clothing [extra layers] and/or a blanket for the relaxation practice.
