We take a friendly step by step approach to researching, planning, writing and importantly finding and maintaining that vital spark of inspiration and motivation. Novel, Script, Autobiography or Collection of work - suitable for beginners and improvers, whether you’ve yet to put pen to paper, are midway through, or ‘blocked’ this accessible guide will allow you to meet others, gain some focused information and get writing!

Course aim

A step by step approach to researching, planning, writing, finding and maintaining inspiration and motivation. Novel, Script, Autobiography or Collection of work - gain some information and get writing!

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Express an understanding of approaches to and differing forms of writing project.
  • Gain confidence in one's abilities in planning, commenting on, critiquing and/or editing an extended writing project.
  • Draw from own skills and experience in creating, planning and developing works of one's own in accordance to one of more of the strategies covered.
  • Display competence in the development of writing projects which adhere to and take influence from the strategies covered.
  • Gain motivation and enthusiasm for writing projects in general.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
