The tutor will select a variety of modern texts, including short stories, plays and poems. All the texts of these will be provided by the tutor at the first meeting of the group. On a strictly voluntary basis, students will be invited to introduce some of the texts with, for example, biographical information about the author.

Course aim

We will study and discuss a varied range of modern literary texts dealing with marriage.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Distinguish between the various views on marriage as set out in the texts.
  • Comment critically on the quality of the texts studied.
  • Comment on the different approaches demonstrated in plays, poems and short stories.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • On a strictly voluntary basis, students will be invited to offer presentations introducing the texts.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • All materials will be provided
