Poetry: four poets in one day

Ref: C3530420

This course will explore the work of four remarkable modern poets: Wendy Cope, Tony Harrison, Kathleen Jamie & Philip Larkin. While each of these writers sees the world in very individual ways, they all place great emphasis on the craft of poetry. We will look closely at how the most subtle choices of language can make such a huge difference, in terms of meaning and emotional power. In the process, we will consider how poetry can enable us all to think more deeply about the worries, and the wonders, which surround us. If you are new to poetry, then this course will provide an ideal foothold. If these writers are old friends, then please come along and share your enthusiasm for their company.
