Pevsner Perambulation Saltash

Saltash is a fascinating medieval borough and Tamar crossing point with a charter going back to 1201. This perambulation (guided walk) will start at the waterfront and work up through the town considering such subjects as the impact of slum clearances, bridge building and pre-1600 building survival (Meeting place - outside The Boatman Inn, Saltash).

Course aim

To study present and past Saltash architecture in situ through the eyes of Nikolaus Pevsner.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss the growth and development of this 'gateway' to Cornwall
  • Recognise and describe some unfamiliar architectural terms
  • Pass on information to others

How will I be taught?

  • outdoor observations and discussions

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Binoculars, cameras, maps, Pencil/pen and notebook or tablet, good walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
