Something for a Saturday - Fun with Maths

Ref: C3530358

This is a practical and interactive course which will help you realise how much you use maths everyday. The session is made up of a series of activities which are completed individually and in teams. The emphasis is on fun and engaging tasks which are of different levels of difficulty so that you can discover which areas of maths you would like to improve or develop in the future.

Course aim

This is a taster session, the aim of which is for learners to gain confidence, exploring concepts in a fun way. Discovering that they may want to improve their overall Maths level by committing to a longer course.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a level 2 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the value of number bonds and connectives.
  • Consolidate your understanding of the four basic operations.
  • Interpret data from charts and timetables to solve a problem.
  • identify which maths processes should be used when looking at everyday situations.

How will I be taught?

  • Teaching methods depends on the equipment available in the room ... will it be a classroom? is there a iWB? do I provide the printed work sheets myself? do I submit them for printing? what about calculators, coloured pencils pens etc? Sorry Sadie .. bit clueless here....

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • I don't know what equipment I have to provide or what I can reasonably ask them to bring. The activities I thought I would do require coloured pencils, a pair of paper scissors

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
