We will explore line, tone and colour by looking at natural forms and use perspective to place them in a convincing space. We will develop observational skills by analysing forms and warm and cool colours to convincingly portray what we see. Each week we will look at artists' work to inform our own practice.

Course aim

To develop drawing from observation to understand proportion and simple perspective. To analyse colour and tone and develop colour mixing skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand basic perspective.
  • Mix warm and cool colours accurately
  • Analyse artists' work to understand their intentions

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Bring an A3 or A4 sketchbook and ab pencil plus any other drawing materials you may have.
