We will be deaf aware by making sure we communicate clearly and easily. There will be opportunities to learn to finger-spell the alphabet and learn some greeting signs so one can communicate with a deaf customer/client/staff/volunteer.
Course aim
To be deaf aware and to learn some basic signs in order to improve communication between the hearing and non hearing community.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- To be more deaf aware
- To improve communication skills with a person who has a hearing loss
- To be able to do the fingerspelling alphabet
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
What else do I need to know?
- Nothing else is needed
- All materials will be provided

What can I do next?
- To go on a Sign Language course and gain a qualification.
