What is Sociology? An introduction to the world of Sociology, Society and what makes us who we are particularly through the medium of the media. The theories will be explored by looking at topical issues in modern C21 Britain.

Course aim

To encourage interest in Sociology and its importance in understanding society and the human condition.

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have a better knowledge of Sociology and its contribution to our better understanding of Society
  • Display a knowledge of some Sociological Theories and Sociological Research studies
  • Understand the impact of the media on our lives

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Whole group lecture and discusssion Smaller group work depending on numbers

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
