Jewellery Workshop – Upcycled art jewellery

You will be using stringing and crimping techniques (with jewellery findings and wire) during this one day workshop, in order to create a number of unique pieces of art jewellery. You will be encouraged to consider composition, colour, shape and texture to make design a feature of your work.

Course aim

Using a range of beads you will create a number of your own unique pieces of art jewellery. You may also use your imagination to adapt the techniques taught in order to make something amazingly different than that suggested by the tutor.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create a number of totally unique pieces of jewellery, wearable art or other unique pieces of 'art'
  • Discuss what is possible to create using simple jewellery materials, tools and techniques
  • Undertake independent research in order to develop a greater awareness of contemporary art-jewellery

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • All materials are supplied, but you are welcome to bring any of your own items, objects or materials that you would like to incorporate into your making. NB. if you bring sea glass /ceramic objects they must be pre-drilled.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • This is definitely not required in order to enjoy the workshop but you could look up examples of re-cycled jewellery, art jewellery or wearable art so as to give you some ideas before you attend.
