Free Taster – Upcyled Art Jewellery

Ref: C3530202

Learn to use stringing and crimping techniques (with jewellery findings and wire) to create your own unique piece of art jewellery. We will consider composition, colour, shape and texture to make design a feature of your work.

Course aim

Using a range of beads, students will create their own unique piece of art jewellery. Students may also use their imagination to adapt the techniques taught in order to make something amazingly different than that suggested by the tutor.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create a totally individual piece of jewellery, wearable art or other unique piece of 'art'
  • Discuss what is possible to create using simple jewellery materials, tools and techniques
  • Recognise and discuss some contemporary art-jewellery

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • You are welcome to bring any of your own items, objects or materials that you would like to incorporate into your making. NB. if you bring sea glass / ceramic objects they must be pre-drilled.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • This is definitely not required in order to enjoy the workshop but you could look up examples of re-cycled jewellery, art jewellery or wearable art so as to give you some ideas before you attend.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • You could start making your own jewellery / art jewellery either for yourself, as presents or to sell on a website or elsewhere.
