The workshop will provide an introduction to relevant knowledge and a range of skills necessary for successful work related presentations, such as interviews, internal presentations or other professional purposes. We will also consider, with examples the role of humour!

Course aim

The workshop will provide an introduction to relevant knowledge and a range of skills necessary for successful work related presentations, such as interviews, internal presentations or other professional purposes.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • The workshop is aimed at anybody that in the course of their work gets involved in speaking and/ or presenting formally to others, who wishes to improve in this area of professional life.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe and show an understanding of the key general elements of successful work related presentations, including what not to do!
  • Understand more about the effective use of presentational software
  • Understand more about the principles and practicalities of self presentation as the key to effective delivery
  • Deliver a 'micro presentation 'to other members of the group with developmental feedback.
  • Feel more confident about future presentations and had fun!

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The majority of the learning will be practical , drawing on the experience and expertise of the tutor and participants. All members of the group carry out practical activities in pairs , small groups and individually to enhance learning.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will beindividualised feedback and tutor led discussion on all practical activities undertaken by participants.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • It would be useful as preparation to reflect upon successful or unsuccessful presentations that have been experienced and what made them so.
