Writing can help us to make sense of ourselves and our experiences. Exploring your own life story through activities with an emphasis on play and discovery, generate autobiographical material while flexing your writing muscles.

Course aim

This course will provide students with an opportunity to explore their memories and experiences through writing with a series of weekly prompts and activities.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Generate prose from memories and personal experiences.
  • Develop your confidence as a writer.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of life-writing and memoir.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Please note this course will focus on the process of writing and generation of material rather than focusing on literary merit or the crafting in detail.

Enrolment Conditions

  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
