Literature: Poetry and History (Exeter)

Ref: C3530114

How have poets dealt with history? This course analyses iconic figures such as Joan of Arc, Richard III, and Napoleon, as well as key events like the Battle of Waterloo and the English Civil War. There will be a case study of the Peterloo Massacre (marking its 200th anniversary this year). Poets include Shakespeare, Marvell, Byron, Shelley, and a host of others. No experience necessary.
