Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

This introductory course will provide an opportunity to experience some Mindfulness practices which have been shown to help people deal more effectively with various different stresses in life. As well as the practical experiences there will be information on some of the background, understanding and neuroscience behind why these methods can help support greater ease in life.

Course aim

An introduction to Mindfulness and how mindfulness practices can assist us in dealing with stress in our lives.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Define Mindfulness
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the misconceptions surrounding Mindfulness
  • Experience at least 2 Mindfulness practices during the session

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • You may like to bring a notepad to make any personal notes

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • An opportunity to take part in a full 8 week MBSR (MIndfulness Based Stress Reduction) Course.
