The course includes various activities to encourage you to increase your knowledge in a relaxed and often fun atmosphere. You will engage in conversation and gain confidence and build your vocabulary in speaking French through varied activities and in a supportive atmosphere.

"Further Your French with Fun" Develop spoken and written French Listen and understand French spoken at normal speed Develop a knowledge of current French life and thinking

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is for all students who wish to improve and extend their knowledge of French both spoken and written. A good basic knowledge of French required.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Initiate and participate in conversation in French with increased confidence (Speak French) Understand spoken French spoken at native speed and answer related questions (Listen)
  • Read aloud in French with greater clarity and confidence (Read French)
  • Practise writing in French researching vocabulary and using varied tenses
  • Listen to French spoken at native speed and answer related questions. Improve aural comprehension. (Listen)
  • Participate in conversation. Create rôle play with partner/small groups. Solve vocabulary building puzzles/exercises (Speak and Write)

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be given an article to read in preparation for the following lesson. This will aid comprehension in class. You may be encouraged to complete a written homework task during the term.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Written homework will be marked with comments for improvement

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring the following to lessons: A good dictionary e.g. Collins A4 loose leaf folder and plastic wallets to hold handouts file paper, pens Verb tables

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
