Ref: C3529518

For anyone working to complete a sustained piece of creative writing; here we will learn about scene building, adding complexity to a plot and how to revise your writing without pain.

Course aim

This is the third part of the online programme: Write a Novel in a Year and deals with writing and editing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This is most likely to attract students who attended the first two online courses, but would be of equal use to other/new students who are also working to complete a sustained piece of writing.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Integrate dialogue into narrative
  • Add complexity to plot and sub plots
  • Develop and resolve tension
  • Eliminate superfluous words
  • Build the narrative to generate a dramatic ending

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need use of a computer and be able to download and use free video conferencing software in order to participate in this course.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
