Personal Development: Gain life and social skills through drama

Ref: C3529469

Drama is an excellent way of gaining confidence by improving vocal skills, working with others and exploring creativity. Students will explore the concept of choice; how making good choices and exercising the right to make choices can build confidence. We will look at legislation that effects people with learning disabilities and work towards creating a user friendly questionnaire, using the results creatively. Students will work to personal outcomes relevant to individual skills and abilities whilst being challenged to take leading roles within the group.

Course aim

To explore personal experiences through the creation of individual pieces of drama, whilst challenging selves to gain new skills and improve existing ones.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for adults with learning disabilities of all abilities and ages. If you have additional needs, for example epilepsy, or personal care needs, please ensure you bring a trained support worker with you.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Gain confidence in speaking up and being heard.
  • Work towards creating an interactive piece of theatre aimed at others with learning disabilities.
  • Create a questionnaire and collate the results.

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?
