Relaxation techniques for health and well-being

This course is designed to extend previous courses by further demonstrating and enabling learners to participate in, and develop their practice, of a range of accessible relaxation techniques that they can use on a daily basis and/or at times when they need to relax and to promote a sense of well-being. For example: breathing, walking, visualization, Zentangle and other creative activities. Each student will also engage in a ‘Relaxing Project’ of their choice, depending on their individual needs, wishes and preferences.

Course aim

The course aims to introduce students to a range of relaxation techniques and to use these in their daily lives in order to promote a sense of well-being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have developed your ability to identify when and how to apply relaxation techniques according to your individual preferences/choices .
  • Recognise how relaxation techniques can help to generate a sense of health and well being.
  • Complete a ‘Relaxing Project’ of your choice.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
