Improving your Computer skills

This course will provide students with the opportunity to create spreadsheets charts in Excel, create presentations in PowerPoint and develop internet skills. Alternatively, students can choose to work on their own specific projects with help from the course tutor.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to introduce students to a spreadsheet programme (Excel) a presentation programme (PowerPoint) and to build on previous experience of using the internet.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create, format, print and save spreadsheets in Excel
  • Add images and tables to Powerpoint presentations
  • Create save and print Powerpoint presentations
  • Use formula (addition, multiplication and division) and produce a printed spreadsheet.
  • Use the internet and search using different search engines.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
