This Healthy Eating course looks at creating sweet treats that are lower in fat and sugar than high calorie store bought temptations. We will be cooking scratch and creating cheesecake calzones, lentil Halwas and more.

Course aim

This course is about creating sweet treats with less fat and sugar than the popular store bought versions. We cook from scratch and use fruits and various cooking techniques to bring about maximum flavour to food.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use fruit to flavour food
  • use the oven to create lower fat versions of deep fried goods such as churros.
  • learn how to make sweet pizzas
  • learn how to decode the other 'names' for sugar on food labelling.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Not all ingredients will be provided by the WEA such as fruit and fresh ingredients. Information is available on request.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Further Cookery courses are scheduled to commence in September 2019 at this venue.
