Printmaking for Beginners

This engaging course will allow you to develop your creativity skills. You will learn how to design and make your own unique lino print that you can then develop into a range of greetings cards or a 2metre length of fabric bunting for indoor use. No previous printing or sewing skills will be needed for this course. Please come along and learn a new craft or develop your existing skills.

Course aim

To provide an enjoyable and creative experience where you will be able to design and make your own unique lino print. This will then be transferred onto a range of greetings cards or onto fabric to make a length of bunting for indoor use.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Design and make a lino print
  • Develop hand and sewing machine skills
  • Create a beautiful length of interesting and unique bunting suitable for use indoors
  • To meet like minded people who enjoy the pleasures of crafting
  • To learn skills that you could go on to use at home for other printing projects

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • If you have fabric you would like to use for the bunting please bring it along. Pillowcases and plain woven cotton fabric will work well. Please bring an apron or wear older clothes.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
