Modular Based Chair Exercise

This Chair Based exercise course is designed to improve health and support a healthier lifestyle. Practical exercises which can be completed both in the sessions and at home will be taught. The health topic for this term is Cancer Awareness. Students will be able to pass on information and exercises to family and their local community.

Course aim

The course is for all and willl provide practical chair based exercise to complete in sessions as well as in the home alongside raising awareness of a healthier lifestyle.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Name the 4 most Common Cancers in the UK
  • State 5 Risk Factors for Cancer
  • Describe 5 Symptoms of Bowel Cancer
  • Explain how Exercise and being Active can help prevent Bowel Cancer

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Wear loose clothing suitable for exercise, trainers and bring water in a plastic bottle. If you require any medication during exercise please bring with you (for example an Inhaler or Angina Spray).

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
