Yoga for Calm and Relaxation

This course is aimed at both beginners to the art of yoga and those whom already have experience. This course will give you an opportunity to discover techniques and tips for use in your everyday life - move, meditate, relax and support a calmer mind/life. Focus on conscious breathing, postures and meditations that help to improve resilience, flexibility and the nervous system. Reconnect with body, mind and consciousness - take some time to simply be you.

Course aim

To develop wellbeing through an awareness of, and participation in: yogic exercise, meditation, relaxation and discussions around the nervous system.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • State x types of pranayam and their specific purposes
  • Name an/ x asana(s) that support(s) the nervous system
  • Participate in a range of Kriya and Meditation

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Observvation of participation in Pranayam, Kriya and Meditation

What else do I need to know?

  • A yoga mat, if you have one. You may also wish to bring a blanket/large bath towel/travel rug to keep yourself warm during relaxation and wear appropriate loose fitting comfortable clothes (layers, so you can add/remove as necessary). Bring a bottle/flask of water to stay hydrated.
