Supporting Cancer in the Workplace

This course offers help for representatives to improve facilities and policies for Cancer in the workplace, information to advise the legal rights and benefits available for those affected by cancer and to improve awareness of the impact of cancer on an individual or carer.

Course aim

This course is for Unison representatives I order for them to support members who have cancer or who are a carer for someone with cancer. it is based on Macmillan's Work and Cancer Toolkit .

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is open to Unison members only

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify legislation which protects members with cancer
  • List 5 different types of cancer
  • Explain the impact of chemotherapy on someone

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
