This short course will introduce you to the techniques which will enable the management and reduction of stress, anxiety and depression. You will engage in discussion, relaxation and meditation to music. You will also discover ways to allow your confidence and motivation to grow for better well-being and keep a diary of positive thoughts and sentiments.

Course aim

Brighter Minds for Well-being is a short course to support the management of stress, anxiety and depression. Through discussion, meditation and relaxation techniques, may your journey to well-being be the start of healthier beginnings.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn how to focus on positive thinking to diminish negative thoughts for better health and well-being
  • Adopt strategies for relaxation and meditation
  • Learn the benefits of exercise
  • Increase motivation and confidence

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be asked to adopt the strategies used in each session to support you with your journey to better health and well-being.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • All activities are flexible and enables you to engage at your own pace

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Please bring a pen and some paper with you to complete tasks set in the sessions

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • You will be given websites and useful information to read online so if you do have internet access on your phone or tablet, then please do bring to the sessions.
