This course is intended for people who wish to explore their creativity through both art and writing (it is well documented that engagement with creative arts enhances a sense of wellbeing and also helps reduce stress and anxiety,) Each session will have a focus which acts as a starting point to inspire expressive responses.Some sessions will feature a specific artist or writer. A wide range of art materials including paper will be provided.During the session the tutor will spend time with each student to demonstrate techniques when necessary, advise and help facilitate full participation At the end of each session artwork produced will be displayed and students will be encouraged to read back their writing. Students will receive constructive feedback from the tutor and their peers.

Course aim

This course offers people opportunities to discover latent talents or further develop their creative potential using visual arts combined with some creative writing exercises.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce a multi media piece of work combining several different art mediums.
  • contribute to a collective piece of writing
  • Display and discuss my work with the tutor and my peers
  • Demonstrate I have learnt some new skills

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Wear an apron or old shirt to protect clothing.

  • An interest and enthusiasm for Art and Literature.
