This friendly and relaxed art class will provide the opportunity for you to develop your painting and drawing skills as well as your knowledge and appreciation of art. This course is designed for all levels and abilities with individual guidance from the tutor. Absolute beginners will be made very welcome as well as the more advanced. This term will be based around four interesting themes: waves and reflections, summer scenes, animals and flora and drawing and painting fantasy machinery - Steam Punk meets Heath Robinson! The techniques covered across the term will include using watercolours, using shrink plastic and reverse painting on glass.

Course aim

A practical art course covering various elements of art based around 4 themes across the term

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Experiment with a combination of techniques
  • Apply colour theory to develop use of colour in work
  • Produce at least 4 finished pieces of work

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
