Russian Personalities with Gerald Brooke

Ref: C3126620

During the course of four sessions we shall look at eight or so historical figures who have made a significant impact on Russian history and culture during the five centuries of her existence as a unitary state. Amongst them will be those who ruled or exercised power, but there will also be some who dared to confront it or chose to serve it. There will be some whose work enriched the cultural and spiritual fabric of the nation. Scientists, saints, scholars, soldiers, seers and scullions. Some like the writer, Mikhail Bulgakov, you will know, at least by repute. Of others, like the Archpriest Avaakum, you may not even have heard. As we shall see, they all played their part in the building of Russia.
