Using the Computers for Beginners Workshop

• You will identify parts of the computer and important keys on keyboard • You will practice using the mouse accurately, typing short texts and changing how the words look. • You will learn how to save and print your documents.

Course aim

This one day workshop is for people who have little or no experience using computers. You will learn some basic skills to help you feel more confident using Microsoft Word on a computer.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • • To log on to a computer with a username and password and log off at the end of the session.
  • • To find and use essential keys on the keyboard correctly (delete, space, shift, return, caps lock).
  • • To format (change) typed words using bold, underline, italics, font size and colour.
  • • To save and print a document.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
