Basic printmaking

Explore a variety of simple printmaking techniques - such as block printing, collagraph and monotype printing. Using everyday materials and natural objects, learn how to take your ideas from design to final print. Students will learn through step-by-step demonstration and be encouraged to develop creative skills through personal response and experimentation.

Course aim

Introduction to printmaking. Enjoy learning creative skills in a relaxed and friendly environment, using a range of tools and techniques to make a series of unique hand-made prints.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore a variety of simple printmaking techniques, using templates as starting points, learn to bring your ideas to life.
  • Understand the basic principles of block printing, collagraph and monotype printing.
  • Make a variety of printing 'plates' from which to print, recognising good practise when preparing papers and 'inking up' in readiness for printing.
  • Build confidence in creative work by exploring design / craft techniques and processes.
  • Interact with others, sharing ideas, good practise and problem solving.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • An apron and wet wipes might be useful! A packed lunch is recommended

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
