Hereford; Historic Buildings in the Cathedral City

An day meeting will begin with an illustrated lecture and discussion to highlight some of the key points of interest in buildings of the city from Saxon times to the present day. We will then make visits to a selection of local buildings to discover more about their history and architecture.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the buildings of Hereford. By looking at their architecture and history we will discover more about the development of this cathedral city through the centuries.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have a better understanding of the architecture of the buildings in the city of Hereford
  • Have a better understanding of the historical development of the city of Hereford
  • Have a better understanding of the built environment in comparable historical towns to Hereford

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Suitable clothing and footwear for a guided tour of the city centre.
