Film study day: Hollywood director Michael Curtiz

In the morning we will look at the life and career of Michael Curtiz. Tutor Adam Feinstein will take us through Curtiz's life with film clips and focus on Captain Blood (1935) and Casablanca (1942) plus later movies The Proud Rebel (1958) and The Hangman (1959). The film Casablanca will be shown in the afternoon followed by a question and answer and discussion session. In collaboration with Ledbury Film Club.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the life and career of Hollywood director Michael Curtiz.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss the life and career of the director.
  • Discuss the director's films and genre.
  • Appreciate and better understand the film Casablanca.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

  • Nothing else is needed
