If you love traditional food then this course is for you. We will learn how to make some of the more well known dishes from summer, such as quiches, tarts and food for the barbecue. This course is also perfect for learning traditional UK regional recipes.

Course aim

To teach students how to make healthy food choices and recipes focussing on traditional summer-time recipes.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise and use at least three summertime ingredients.
  • Read and follow at least three recipes to make summer dishes.
  • Demonstrate at least three kitchen skills used to create healthy meals.
  • Demonstrate how to prepare food hygienically and safely

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Students need an apron and food containers to take the food home. Students will have to provide their own ingredients - the cost of ingredients will be between £3.00 - £5.00 per session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • If students have relevant recipe books, they could look through these and discuss any recipes they would like make during the course.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
