Sewing for Beginners will learn you the skills and techniques to make small hand crafted items in a lively and friendly atmosphere. You will learn how to draft a paper pattern, use a sewing and embroidery machine to produce quality items that look handmade not homemade!
Course aim
To provide an introduction to sewing, pattern making and machine embroidery with a view to implementing/developing these skills in your own home.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Learners will be able to draft a paper pattern
- Learners will be able to program and operate a computerised embroidery machine
- Learners will be able to demonstrate 2 hand stitches
- Learners will be able to produce 2+ handcrafted items
- Learners will be able to further develop their social skills and confidence
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
What else do I need to know?
- You can purchase fabric by the metre from the tutor who will carry a small selection, or bring your own. All machines, threads, scissors, pins etc are supplied by the tutor.
