Active Voices courses are codesigned with students. Courses offer students the chance to pause and consider what they want to find out about, or spend more time reflecting on or learn to do as we get older. A taster session for this course held in January included a quiz about ageing which knocked some common myths on the head. There was general agreements that students were in the middle of some kind of transition since most students are beginning to engage in a different kind of life e.g. post retirement. While not set in stone it was agreed that some key themes were shared and they will help structure the rest of the course. The themes are: Exploring and understanding mental illness associated with ageing including dementia; self-development - getting in touch with our creative minds and creative selves; improving our know how on getting funding for the organisations we support; staying well and being resilient as we get older.

Course aim

Introduce people aged 50 plus to new ways of thinking about themselves and the many different ways they can engage with civic life - from contributing to where they live to getting their voices/views heard about something they feel strongly about
