Improve your health and fitness through Sosa by learning new dance routines from rock and roll, rumba, waltz, disco, salsa, tango, etc. in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Develop these skills further and learn how through creative movement of your body, arm and hand techniques along with foot movements. You can learn new dance styles. No experience needed and you work to your own ability.

Course aim

Sosa Dance is fitness for women, dance routines, rumba, salsa, waltz, disco, tango, etc. Low impact, aerobic exercise. Fun relaxed atmosphere.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate at least one new dance routine.
  • Understand and know the basic terminology of at least two least two dance steps.
  • Understand and demonstrate hoe to create the movement of a dance style, such as a rumba and waltz etc.
  • Demonstrate co-ordination of hand and arm movement and how it can enhance a dance routine.
  • Discover the many dance styles ballroom has to offer, as well as international dance steps.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be taught as a group and given verbal and visual instructions, movement or steps, with support throughout the dance routine. You may be asked to research a dance style ahead of a session to help understand the dance.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will have the opportunity to discuss your progress with your tutor. You are free to ask questions about anything to do with the dance routines, to help to understand the method of the dance steps and movements of the dance styles.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to bring bottled water, or a water bottle. You will need to wear flat comfortable non slip shoes or trainers. You will need to be wearing loose comfortable clothes.
