This is the perfect sewing course for you if you are looking to improve your skills in sewing and dress making. During the course you will be following a range of dress making patterns to create different types of garments. You will also be encouraged to make changes into a pattern to create a different style. Step by step support will be provided during the whole course. You are free to learn in your own time. The class is very friendly, safe and supportive. Perfect environment to learn new skills.

Course aim

Exploring your sewing machine, using different types of decorative stitches, machine feet. Basics of dress making including ,taking body measurements and creating patterns. Introduction to different types of fabrics.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use decorative stitches on a sewing machine
  • Carry out essential maintenance to sewing machine
  • Complete a set task using appliqué
  • Be able to use 3 different types of sewing machine feet
  • to follow pre printed sewing patterns

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machines.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
