Essential Skills for Work - Entry 2

This course is designed to help students to communicate successfully. Integrated skills lessons are full of different types of activities (pair and group work activities, brainstorming, open discussions and others) to maximise your opportunities for practising the language in class and outside the class. The course covers the following topics: Get started, Lost umbrellas, Family portraits, Family and Friends, Health, Job hunting, The Best Job, Job Interview, Starting and Ending Conversations. The course has a strong focus on developing your conversational skills, covering the areas of grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and listening appropriate to the level.

Course aim

It is aimed at enhancing adult learners' employability skills through improving their English.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Speak clearly in simple exchanges and everyday contexts
  • Compare places and people lives and jobs
  • Describe objects, activities and people
  • Ask different types of questions
  • Develop employability skills

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
