This course is for those wishing to learn about knitting and crochet techniques. Students will have the opportunity to make their own garment, as well working on a group project, decided by the students.
Course aim
To introduce students to the skills needed to complete a knitted project. Students will learn hand knitting and crochet techniques and basic pattern reading skills.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Read and follow a knitting pattern to produce a garment.
- Read and follow a crochet pattern to produce a garment.
- Demonstrate three different knitting or crochet stitches or patterns.
- Develop and take part in a group project.
- Choose a personal project completed by the end of the course
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
- Students may need to supply their own knitting equipment for their own project. Initially, the tutor will bring some wool and knitting needles.
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- If students have some ideas of what they would like make before the start of the course then that would be desirable.
