A friendly and supportive class to develop your Maths and English skills. You will be working in small groups to plan a holiday/journey to a budget. The task involves working with percentages, adding decimals, exchange rates, two way tables and problem-solving. Within this course you have the opportunity to improve your spelling, learning about letter patterns and sounds - including an introduction to silent letters and basic sentence structure

Course aim

To explore everyday Maths and English and develop skills and strategies that can be used in everyday life.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Work within a budget
  • Plan a Destination, Distance Km,Miles, length of time to travel, time difference, mode of transport, accommodation
  • Cost of journey/holiday/day trip
  • Identify some letter patterns and sound
  • Introduction to silent letters

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Personal laptops are welcome

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
