Course aim

Improve sewing skills on individual pieces adding personalised design elements with an Embroidery machine Professionally finish projects with the overlocker Use different technical elements for pattern pieces and skills for garment construction

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce sample sewing pieces for practice then chose one individual projects to show your sewing skills
  • Gain experience using the overlocker then professionally finish one project using the overlocker
  • Experiment and design samples then personalise your project with the Embroidery machine
  • Respect each others personal space and individual ideas and opinions, share ideas in class and help and support each other when needed
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when using machinery and equipment

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • one to one verbal feed back with your individual work at each stage your work will be photographed for end of term evaluation and mini movie This can be just your individual work or included on a collective movie for class

What else do I need to know?

  • sewing machines, overlocker and new embrodiary machines and equipment are provided to help you create and designer projects with small samples of material for practice but you are expected to bring your own material for your individual projects

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
